Negative experience: "Be aware - no prices disclosed and products opened without consent" A 10 minute consultation for a routine ear infection cost me over $528. Not a single price was disclosed during the entire visit - products were simply opened and used without asking permission or mentioning cost, and I was handed the bill at the end. I want other pet owners to know that the Veterinary Council of New Zealand Code of Professional Conduct legally requires vets to disclose costs before treatment. This did not happen here. When I raised these concerns formally, I was called pedantic for expecting prices to be disclosed. When I questioned being sold 250ml of ear flush when the treatment only required 20ml, the response was that this is simply "normal practice." This matter has been referred to the Disputes Tribunal and the Veterinary Council of New Zealand.

Fantastic experience: the workers at carevets are all so nice and they have allways helped me if I had any questions and they offer great service and the grooming is great thank you Carevets.

Negative experience: I was very happy with these vets until I had dealings with the vet nurse Carol. I asked twice whether a pregnancy scan will show me how many puppies my dog was having. She failed to answer the question and said she needed a scan anyway even though I already knew she was pregnant so I went ahead and got the scan thinking I’d be able to find out how many puppies she’s having which wasn’t the case. So I complained to her about it and she finally answered my question saying a scan was needed to confirm pregnancy before they can do the C section. Then continued to run me down for asking in the first place when she could have answered the question easily instead of it resorting to an argument. She is very rude and Not very nice at all! I have questions before attending appointments and paying money for those appointments so of course I’m going to want some questions answered. Not just ignored and treated badly later. Another dealing I had with the vet was the quote I had got for 2 female dog spays was about $350 each more than a different vet so of course I’m going to take them to the other vet for her spay to save $700. When i decided to go back to carevets when one of our dogs got infected ears. I got declined by Heather. She said because we went to use another vets services that we are not welcome back there. I don’t see what the problem is? I originally was at vet down the road before I went to carevets in the first place and went back there aswell. Not once did they complain about me using another vets services and went ahead to book the appointments and see our pets. She was Not very professional at all!

Negative experience: First time dog owner but know I received a terrible service. Vet doctor was not friendly or helpful, didn’t even do a proper check up, shoved her hand down his throat to get him to swallow flea/deworm tablets whole when he wouldn’t swallow she gave up, gave the pills to me and told me to do it when I get home, walked out feeling like she was no help at all and confused, reception staff lovely.

Negative experience: One star is too generous for the treatment I received by this vet. During the consultation for a repeat prescription of apoquel tablets for my dog (who has suffered allergies for some years), the vet refused to provide me with the script copy (after previously proving these for about 3 years) and suggested it would be altered if I received it directly (which is fraud) which is absolutely disgusting. They overcharge for the medicine also. Will no longer be subjected to their treatment. Do not recommend. After 8 years and two pets I'll be going elsewhere for better care and professionalism by staff who care for well being of pets before profits.

Fantastic experience: My dog contacted parvovirus as a very young puppy, there was only a 20% servival rate. Carevets were amazing, the vet and the staff throughout the whole process were remarkable. He is now for and healthy. If it wasn't for those guys he wouldn't have made it. They guided us through the treatment and the aftercare process with empathy, knowledge and advice. I would not go to anywhere else. Their prices were very good too.

Fantastic experience: Since switching to Carevets initially when my cat was undergoing relatively new treatment for FIP the staff were so kind and helpful. Since then I had to put a dog down and they were so dedicated and comforting. I have 3 cats and one dog and they are always so accomadating and kind. I know my beloved babies get the best treatment there and it's as stress free as possible. Highly recommend their services.

Fantastic experience: Had the most amazing experience here this last week. From squeezing us in after 5pm to check our cat who got into a cat fight - talked us through our options and explained each one well. Then the follow up call on the weekend to check on him to see how he was! Thank you Dr June Li - you went above and beyond - super greatful.

Negative experience: Took my puppy in to be checked for his foot, one person was really nice. The rest of the staff weren’t nice the vet treated him like a mutt, throwing treats on the ground like he wasn’t sitting and waiting for it. Very poor at explaining about what pills they were giving, consultation wasn’t even 59 dollars long it was only 4 minutes literally glanced at it didn’t feel it and already diagnosed him. We explained that we already had antibiotics for under his chin, but she just simply wouldn’t listen and added more pills. Just because his breed is expensive the vet kept saying “you should have known that having a bigger breed will cost more” when we were simply asking a simple question. We understand that having a bigger breed will be more expensive but the thing is she just wasn’t explaining things and wasn’t answering questions properly just simply cutting everything short. Will not be going back there again.

Positive experience: Our KityKat Zoey and our Border Collie Bandit love going to the vets, relaxed and happy except when the kitten sees a needle. We think in part this is because the staff get to know the animals, call them by their names and spoil them so the animals trust them.

Fantastic experience: Sadly we had to put our much loved 12 1/2 year old retriever to sleep due to health problems. Carevets were fantastic! They came to our home which was of so much comfort for us. We have always found the whole team at Napier Carevets so very professional with the services they have shown us over the many years. This is the second dog we have lost and the empathy that we received from them on both occasions was heartfelt and greatly appreciated. I cannot recommend and thank them all highly enough. Fantastic experience: I was visiting Napier from out of town when my dog became really unwell. I was able to get an appointment on a Sunday without having to wait too long. The vet was on time, no waiting. She was professional, caring, friendly, knowledgable and listened carefully to the problem. As my dog is very senior (16) she treated her conservatively with just what she needed. The shop staff were also friendly and efficient. I recommend CareVets to anyone who has a sick animal and wants good personal attention.

Negative experience: Horrid place with horrendous fees. Zero compassion and very judgemental. Hold your pets hostage telling you they must stay for longer than needed when they just simply have a furball! Sucked out all my savings when my cat was fine all along. I now take all my pets elsewhere and refuse to go back. Humiliated my friends in front of customers who have now also changed vets. The animals are better behaved than the staff.

Negative experience: We were very happy with these vets until I had dealings with the vet nurse Carol. She is nasty and very opinionated and needs to learn some customer service skills and to think before she speaks. I made a formal complaint to the office manager only to be told that Carol was having a bad day, and it wasnt taken any further. Not even an apology. Unfortunately I couldnt care less if Carol was having a bad day, she needs to be professional and keep her opinions to herself. I was trying to make a stressful decision about my dog and didnt need Carol making me feel even worse.

Fantastic experience: I would like to sincerely thank Gabe and the team at Care Vets in Napier for the treatment that my dog and I received recently. My dog (Mase) was suffering through arthritis and then Gabe found bone cancer which meant he had to be put to sleep. Although the big fella was going to be sadly missed, we said goodbye to our boy on 21 March 2014. From my first dealings with Care Vets to the last, Gabe and the rest of the team were empathetic, understanding and always professional. I am still gutted to have lost Mase but am so happy that he was cared for by the great crew at Care Vets in Napier. Where they really do... care I mean.
