Fantastic experience: Excellent service and knowledgeable staff. Highly recommend

Fantastic experience: Our 19yr old rescue cat Shadow went to this clinic for the 4+ yrs we had him, and always received fabulous care and even a successful Glaucoma eye removal surgery last yr from Dr. Elaine McIlhinney. Unfortunately we made the decision to end his life last Tuesday due to a rapid decline in his health and a discovered mass in his tummy. Although the decision was difficult, the care and compassion we received from the staff and Dr. Kevin Turner was exceptional! Today, one week later, we received a personalized hand written sympathy card, with a photo that I swear could have been our boy Shadow. Thankyou Mill Rd xoxo Highly recommend this clinic.

Fantastic experience: We love The team at Mill Road vets it's been along road we have had so many different vets to try help our girl it was very hard she had very bad allergies she got very sick but we didn't give up after several visits we saw Tom and he has been amazing she's finally enjoying life like a normal dog should her skin looks amazing .

Fantastic experience: If there is anything this vet knows how to do right is provide their clients and fury loved ones with compassion, empathy and kindness. In my dog’s last moments, we fortunately turned to the Mill Road Veterinary Clinic after being declined by our previous vets for home euthanasia (even though we had booked in advance). We were prepared for our doggy to go in the comfort of her own home and land. However, she nor our family could bare to see her go on in such pain. After telling our story to them, they did the most generous thing possible and helped us to lay her to rest. Although the Team didnt know our Susan or her family - they treated her last moments with such grace and patience. From the bottom of my heart thank you for giving us our time to say our goodbyes and treated our situation with comfort. Not all vets are for the money, well definitely not the Mill Road Veterinary Clinic ❤️ I cannot recommend them enough.

Fantastic experience: I cannot fault the genuine care and dedication of each vet, nurse and reception staff member that has dealt with my three pets over the past 15 years. I think I have seen all the vets at one time or another and they are all excellent clinicians. They have the animal's best interests at heart, they listen to my concerns and advise and treat based on best practice for the animal. Their desire for the experience to be pleasant and anxiety-free for my beloved pets is also such a bonus.

Negative experience: Staff are not only dismissive but downright rude. Individuals who clearly lack a full understanding of a situation, for anyone expecting open minded, knowledgeable, and empathetic care, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

Fantastic experience: Our injured kitty needed vet attention & as we're newish to the area, we weren't registered anywhere yet. In deciding where to go, I read many reviews from all nearby vets and though this practice had some concerning comments about manner and care, our experience was absolutely far from negative, so I wanted to share our story for other pet owners! I phoned close to closing time and I was quickly and warmly greeted by Julia who was genuinely caring and emphatic, we were there for an appointment within 15 minutes of calling. Ample parking, beautiful, modern and clean purpose built building with so many friendly faces, staff and clients alike. We were welcomed by Kelly who said "do we have Chelsea here?" (our cats name), which was such a nice touch and made me feel like we were going to be well looked after, and not just treated like a "number". We were then met by vet Michelle who is just perfect for the job, it's easy to see that she genuinely cares, she treated and spoke to my fur baby as if she was her own. She did a few checks, handling her so gently, explaining everything to me as she did them. She then gave me her proposal, including price estimates, she explained everything clearly to me, and respected my decision to take our wee girl home and bring her back for diagnostics and treatment in the morning. Unfortunately Chelsea went missing in the early hours of the next morning so I had to cancel our appointment last minute, and the subsequent one that we rescheduled. Julia and Kelly were understanding about this and sympathetic to our situation. Sadly, our wee girl had passed away by the time we found her but we find comfort in knowing that she had pain medication and antibiotics administered at her appointment, and that she was at home near us, so we hope that it was as peaceful as possible for her, given the circumstances. Thank you team for being so caring and loving to our animals. I would not hesitate to recommend this practice.

Fantastic experience: My Mini Dachshund has been seeing Chani for Laser and Physical Rehab after IVDD back surgery. I cant recommend this place enough! Friendly, caring, helpful and most of all my little guy is getting better every day!! Happy customer :0)

Fantastic experience: I am so thankful Mill Rd Vets were able to take squeeze our dog in to be euthanized. It was a very disheartening time for us and our original appointment with a different vet was badly communicated (completely my error). Mill Rd Vets were able to book us in within 30 minutes and help us to relieve our dog of all her pain and suffering with warmth, such kind words and understanding. Thank you so much . Fantastic experience: Our little shetland sheepdog lacey became unwell yesterday. The lovely vet waited for us to arrive from Glinks gully. She was so kind, gentle and extremely thorough. Reassuring us all the way through the consultation. Lacey is improving and eating again . The cause was lixicam anti inflammatory medication. But the vet also found that one of her liver tests was low. So now we can get lacey tested regularly . What an awesome vet and clinic I unreservedly recommend this practice. Thank you

Fantastic experience: Thankyou for the after hours call out to help our Dogs" Boy" and Lou Lou , just knowing that your available on weekends and after hours is so awesome ...you guys are totally amazing.

Negative experience: We visited this vet clinic with our dog who was quite unwell. We expected that he had reached the end of his life but were told that he had plenty of life left in him. After blood test and antibiotics he was much worse. We're traveling and had to move on and he continued to get worse. We took him to a vet in Dargarvile only to be told that he was so unwell we needed to consider saying goodbye. This vet was amazing, compassionate, caring and thoughtful. We took his advice and said goodbye to our beautiful boy.

Fantastic experience: I take both my birds to mill road vet's and have been using them for over 6 years now I love their staff and vet's and kevin their exotic vet is so kind and amazing with my birds he's really great at his job and you can tell he really cares about your animals when you bring them in to the clinic. the staff are super friendly and very nice and helpful and help me bring both bird cages into the clinic and back out to the car as well. I definitely recommend mill road vet's my birds feel safe and comfortable around them which makes going to the vet's less stressful for us. mill road vet's has been there for us for over 6 years now and has been so great to deal with I'm glad we have a great vet the receptionists are all very nice and helpful and I definitely recommend kevin for all exotic animals he's really good.

Fantastic experience: I have pets and after using most of the vets in the area I have settled on Mill Rd Vet clinic. Great caring staff that know how people love their pets. They really made the best of bad pet days. They seem to have all the gear on site to test and deal with whatever has challenged my animals so far. I think we are lucky to have this team in the area for the unlucky pet days.

Fantastic experience: Well, nobody wants to take their pet to the vet ideally but our 8yo dog is finally showing his age, Mill road did not overlook our concerns and gave us a range of options while providing us an understanding of his condition regardless. I’ll add to this, his care during the stay when many would “judge a book by its cover” he was quickly part of the crew and loved by all. Couldn’t ask for more really - thank you team.

Fantastic experience: Our family has been with Mill Rd Vet for approximately 8 years, and every visit has been an amazing experience. They have consistently shown kindness and care towards all our cats. A few years ago, we went through one of the saddest moments with our cat, Momo, when he developed a clot in his hind leg, and we had to make the difficult decision to let him go due to his severe pain. Despite the anticoagulants not working, we could see that the team was doing their utmost to help. The vet drew diagrams that would help us understand what was happening and they were all compassionate during that challenging time. A couple of months later, we received a heartfelt and unexpected surprise from the vet—a special handmade card. The card had a photo of a cat that looked a lot like Momo on the cover, and inside, they had written the sweetest words to comfort us. After a few years, when we decided to bring another cat into our family, we knew that we had to return to Mill Rd Vet. We would like to express our gratitude to the entire team for the card and the exceptional care you provide to our furry family every time.

Fantastic experience: I want to say a special thank you to Mill Road Vet for taking in our animal who was not registered. Our kitten had licked some lilies and we had rung the vet for advice and were told to come in for treatment in case his kidneys were to fail from the poisonous plant to cats. Negative experience: Absolutely disgusted with your treatment if an extremely sick puppy this weekend. Your vet was rough and callous in your treatment of him while he was literally dying in front of you, making him stand freezing on the cold floor even tho his body temp was dangerously low and handling him with zero warmth or care. This puppy that was according to you fine to be sent home, even tho anyone could see he wasn't, died just 4 hours later. I do NOT recommend taking your beloved fur babies to this clinic. Or did Eli not count because he was an abandoned starving baby? Who cares right? Obviously not you.

Fantastic experience: I went to se vet Elaine with our 4 year old bunny who had a bursted tooth abscess. She was just so helpful, knowledgeable and empathetic. She phoned me two days later after 5 pm on a Friday afternoon to hear how bunny is and gave me more pointers on what to look out for. What an amazing vet!

Fantastic experience: The whole team is friendly and supportive, especially in difficult times. The new facility is amazing, very clean, spacious and well organised. And of course Dr. Kevin Turner, my Hero. Such a humane and knowledgeable vet.

Fantastic experience: On Christmas day 2022 our 12 year old german shepherd collapsed and was unable to walk due to arthritis which was unable to be treated apart from pain killers (not a lot of help to her though) because of another condition she was born with. The vet Karis, was on call and im so sorry we had to do this to her on Christmas day as we were hoping we would have time to assess mitzy after New Year but it wasnt possible to let her stay in this condition. Karis was so gentle and aware of our feelings as she administered the medication where Mitzy was confortable in the back of our vehicle then after when there was no more pain, her and my husband moved her into the clinic. We are so thankful to the Mill Road Vets service for its care over the years of Mitzy and particularly for the special care Christmas day. So thank you Karis and Mill Road Vets but we will be back with our other dog Nemo and his normal treatments.

Fantastic experience: We have used Mill road vets for the past 3 years and they have always been excellent with the care of our dog and cat. We recently came home to a limping dog and they were able to squeeze us in very quickly to get it checked out. Great care and kindness are always demonstrated and they are onto it with follow-up calls. Highly recommended.

Negative experience: Our cat needed an emergency visit to the vet and mill road was the only one open, they refused to see us as she wasn’t listed with them, she is only 1 and never needed to see a vet before so obviously had not needed to see one. Was very disgusted that they had no regard for the cats well being. Is that not what a vets for. Would not recommend.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic service. Receptionist was incredibly polite and was able to squeeze my dog in even though we aren’t with the service. Nurse/vet we’re very helpful and and really took care of my dog. Also extremely accommodating with making a follow up appointment that suited our messy work hours. I would recommend highly.

Fantastic experience: I was an 'out of town' holidaymaker on a staycation in Whangarei. My Dog had an ear infection & I booked a consult and Kevin Turner was the vet. Can't speak highly enough about his demenour/explaination and advice moving on about my elderly Border Collie. My hometown vets are ok but Occasionally you meet a Dr/Vet/Tradesman who just sets it all right and makes things clear to understand and puts a plan in place moving on...Kevin is that guy. Thanks buddy.

Fantastic experience: Excellent service when we went in for our Guinea pig. Great help and able to fix the problem. Would defiantly recommend.

Negative experience: Very rude staff both vet and reception. Terrible or no system at all for seeing emergencies regardless of booking in over the phone. Treated my daughter appallingly while she was making the call after x-rays to have her 10 year old cat put down. Had to wait in 30 deg heat in the car with AC running for an hour to keep our dying cat who was struggling to breathe slightly more comfortable. We had booked ahead but it made no difference a truely heartless and soulless business alround. Do not take you pets here if you want them cared for.

Negative experience: I am not happy with the service i received at Mill Road Vet, Whangarei on 26.12.21 The loss of my cat mattered to me much more than expressing me extreme frustration at this Vet clinic sooner. YOUR vision statement: “Mill Road is an owner-operated practice with a team of compassionate and dedicated staff. Our vision statement is to be Northland’s centre of excellence providing the highest quality veterinary care. The 24 hour service you apparently provide sounds awesome and very promising, but the service we received was most definitely not. It was about to be a 30 degree day and it was getting on close to mid day and i’m sitting with my cat in my lap who can barely breathe and is panting away…Not knowing the wait of the vet was much longer than your team made it seem. It would have taken 5 minutes to come out and tell us it’s gonna be awhile or even offer us a cooler space to put our cat in her last hours. So my mother for the second time attempted the door (after numerous phone calls explaining the situation) where we not only saw another family get their cat seen to before ours but also now sat in the burning sun with my dying cat for a further 30-40 minutes after being told we would be next. It was torture and most definitely not “Highest quality veterinary care” I don’t know if it was lack of staff or just complete incompetent management but it really wasn’t good enough, whatever the issue is. These are peoples best friends, family members and most adored pets and the lack of service you provided to me that day was so insensitive, stressful and very traumatic. I spent a lot of money that day for service that was disgraceful but i was far too upset for any more dramas that day. There was absolutely no compassion or care shown to me at the time of payment, your staff could show they some what care and sympathise, not just want my money. You have a duty of care and it seems you were unable to do that effectively. If you are thinking of taking your pet and it needs urgent care, do not depend on this place.

Fantastic experience: Not our regular vet and quite a longer drive for us but we had to get our dogs' knee surgery done here, as they are offering a surgery that wasn't available further up north. We are so pleased with our decision as the surgeon and the whole team looked after our dog so well! Their communication before, during and after the procedures (X-rays and surgery) was brilliant and made it so much better and easing for us. They explained everything beforehand, kept us in the loop on the day of the surgery via phone and checked in on us when we had her back home. Also, the after hour vets answered our questions patiently when we called late when we were not sure about certain symptoms. They really care for the animals and treat them as individuals and not as a number. We wish we could use them as our regular vet, but we will have to go back to our local one for regular and smaller treatments. Hopefully, Nala doesn't need to see you again so soon, but if so, we come back with knowing that she will receive the best care with you guys! Thank you, Didier and the team!

Negative experience: Very disappointed with whoever the lady on reception who is answering calls this morning, not friendly at all felt like I was a nuisance as I had to reschedule an appointment due to flooding then rebook for 1.15 then had to call as SH1 was backed up so couldn't make the appointment so had to call back and the same lady answered same attitude very unfriendly.. I have been with you guys since 2012 but now unsure whether to choose another vet because of the attitude of your receptionist.. love this centre but man your receptionist.. wow...

Fantastic experience: New to Northland. Needed a quality vet practice for my pet dog. Based on high scoring Google map reviews I singled out 3 practices. Kamo vet, kamo veterinary hospital and mill road vets. Based on the Very helpful and friendly staff I chose mill rd. Had an appointment same day with Dr Kevin. So impressed with all the staff I met. Prices are comparable or below the other 2 practices. Can't recommend this practice highly enough.

Fantastic experience: Out of 10 I give Mill Road Vets 18.5!!! The team at Mill Road really care about your animals. I recently had surgery on my dog and they were fantastic keeping me informed every step of the way. The procedure did end up costing slightly more than the quoted amount but they let me know this would be case when they ran into complications and gave me several options as to what I wanted to do. They even let me visit the dog at 9.30pm at night as I was concerned following surgery which was done outside hours. Thanks Mill Road I will be telling everyone how amazing you all are!

Negative experience: I had a bad experience here many years ago, where the procedure for xrays for hip dysplasia ended up costing me more than it should have. Unfortunately they did not explain what they were going to do in a way that I could understand - either that or they made a mistake and did more than they said they would do - would never go here again. Also feels very clinical, not friendly at all.... unless you are a millionaire, then they treat you real nice.

Fantastic experience: Mill Road Vets have provided care for all of our families dogs. The level of skill is exceptional. The staff are friendly and sincere in their love for animals. I highly recomend them
