His brother Aubrey has been unwell, again they were thoughtful and timely with the appointment (he's doing great for a 16 year old cat). Recommend them 100%. Fantastic experience: We saw the clinician practically on time, and she was great with our wee cat who gets agitated at the vet's. Did the blood tests there and they were very quick getting back to us with the results. Practical and realistic advice.

Positive experience: In every aspect, bar one, I am extremely happy with Pet Doctors - The Gardens. The staff are all kind, considerate, obliging and good at their jobs. My cat, Coco, usually sees Meg and I like and trust Meg and she handles Coco well. My only complaint lies with the money I am charged. I think the fees are outrageous. And I say this in the context of what I have paid over the past 50 years at Mornington Vet Clinic and St Kilda Vet Clinic.

Negative experience: An absolute rip off. They charged our two 2dogs $400 for the same injections Clutha Vets charged us $104 for. They charge double for exactly the same medication we got from clutha vets and then charged us $100 PER DOG for repeat injections we normally get at Clutha Vets. The service isn't any better than Clutha Vets. They just overcharge like most other Veterinary Franchises out there because no one is regulating Vet care. This has to change. We have to regulate the Vetcare industry. At the end of the day this is the difference between our dogs getting the pain relief they need or not being able to afford it.

Fantastic experience: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely amazing service from the team at Pet Doctors. They were incredibly kind and patient with my dog, who can be very nervous around new people, and made her feel comfortable from the moment we walked in. On top of that, they were so understanding and welcoming while my noisy daughter happily roamed around the clinic, nothing felt like a hassle or an inconvenience. Extremely friendly staff, fantastic with animals, and a really warm, relaxed environment. Couldn’t recommend them highly enough.

Fantastic experience: We highly recommend Pet Doctors - The Gardens. From the ladies at reception to Leigh the vet who took exceptional care of our much loved Rainbow Lorikeet, Ollie. All concerned including other vets who made it possible for Leigh to spend the time with Ollie went above and beyond in the level of service we received. The ladies who answered both calls we had to make explained what they could do for us to get an urgent appointment for our wee girl and delivered beyond our expectation. We really appreciate the empathy and support shown for Ollie who sadly had just become too ill. Trying to find a vet in Dunedin who had some knowledge of birds was impossible but Leigh was more than happy to see Ollie, I don't know what we would have done without her. Excellent handling skills, good knowledge or did the research to do the best thing for our 21 year old Ollie and kindly even followed up with a phone call after our first appointment.

Negative experience: Wasn't that stoked with the service today after picking up prescription diet for my very old cat. Felt like a bit of an inconvenience and not welcome because we weren't "clients'.

Absolutley the worst day of my life so far having to put my baby down, but the vet here was so compassionate, patient, kind and informative and just made the whole thing so much easier. She waited for even my family to come and say their goodbyes too which is so special. Thankyou for getting in at 8 am on your day off for my baby. Not my usual vet, but I would highly highly reccomend you. Thankyou so much for making me some keepsakes of Tank. 10/10

Negative experience: Hi everyone. Whoever comes here for an emergency I wouldn't really recommend. I took my 7 month old puppy because he had eaten my medicine.so we called vets around dunedin. This was around 5,5:30pm Garden was the only one available at the time. So we called them and they said that they have to make him vomit and put a medicine in my puppy's eye. And that would be $169, for a normal person that's another but anything for my puppy to be safe. So later we took him there. So they tell us to sit down and wait, after 10 minutes or so they took my puppy. If you have a puppy you would know how excited they get. So my puppy was wagging his tail and all excited. Later they took him into a "staff only area" that we weren't allowed into. So we said "ok" and we sat there. One hour later a doctor came out 2 times and told us that they weren't sure if it was fast absorbent or not so we just listened. After 10 minutes they brought him back out. He was SO scared and shivering. They cut his nails. I don't understand why. But they did. So I said ok I will pay now. They then said "that'll be $300" so I paid knowing they cheated. When I came home I noticed that my puppy's leg was swollen. If it was because of the medicine why wasn't it on BOTH sides? To be honest I won't go back to somewhere I can't see how they're treating my dog. Not to allegate them but I'm scared they did something cruel that made his leg swollen. My suggestion is...don't take your pet/s here it's not a good place and charge you because the doctor came over and talked to you and also cutting your pets nails without permission. Thanks for the "great" service during an emergency.

Fantastic experience: The vets/vet nurses are amazing here. They have always been so gentle and kind with our cat. They are knowledgeable and give excellent care. They take afterpay and Q card.

Positive experience: I always feel well looked after here, they love my dog and she loves them! Edit October 2024: I still feel like this is a great vet clinic, but I had an unfortunate experience recently where I was told I would be called in the next few days to book a follow up appointment after a dental surgery because it was difficult to find a space in the calendar (totally understandable). However, I was never called to book a follow up appointment and when I called over a week later to chase it up, it doesn't seem like there was any note in my file or plan to call me (every time I explicitly asked this as a yes or no question I wouldn't get an answer) and the service over the phone was quite rude. I would submit a complaint with the vet themselves but the website doesn't offer that opportunity, other than to send an email and it seems fair to think that the email could possibly go to the reception team, likely the person I talked to on the phone. I would feel more comfortable if there was a clearly outlined complaints process on the website (with information on who receives and processes the complaints), and if a polite, simple request was met with matching politeness.

Receptionists go out of their way to get your pet in for a consultation, even though they are extremely busy Only down side, is costs, which can be rather sobering, but other vet's charge similar in Dunedin. Highly recommended the pet doctors

Fantastic experience: Amazing team that goes above and beyond. Our cat has a complicated medical profile and it's not easy to predict how he will handle new things (food, medication, etc). After an improbably extreme reaction to sedation a few months ago, they worked tirelessly to revive our little guy - I think there's a good chance that Steph saved his life. Today he needed sedation again, and Meg showed such immense caring while developing the sedation plan and then ensuring that he was safe both during and after sedation. Meg is his regular vet (and is awesome), but the team communicates so seamlessly that everyone treats him like their patient. We feel so grateful to have such a capable and caring team looking out for our cat.

Negative experience: Dog Rafe had dental surgery and we were told he needed to be reviewed in 2 weeks but they had no appointments available so receptionist said she would sort this out and contact me with an appointment. She never did! Furthermore they knew when the surgical appointment was made that we would need a review in two weeks so should have sorted out the review appointment when the original was made. Today we rang to make an appointment for Rafe due to swelling under his eye and was told no appointments were available in the near future and we should send them a photo of the swelling instead. When we said that was not acceptable we were told we were being rude. Actually they were being uncaring about our dog's medical needs. The reception can be rude. We ended up ringing another vet service that were compassionate and caring and fit him in today!

Fantastic experience: I recently had to say goodbye to my 15 year old cat. They were so respectful and caring at an incredibly hard time. Were they the cheapest place I could go? No idea. But they were the only ones in town who would even consider seeing her when we were not established clients. They show so much care for all animals, not just the ones already on their books.

If you want a vet in Dunedin that loves and cares about animals and who recognises your pet's special bond as a member of your family, and who will treat your pet accordingly - then look no further. Pet Doctors is the best.

Fantastic experience: After we called the after hours line last night and decided to wait until morning Pet Doctors phoned us first thing and booked our cat Cat/Eggy in. All staff were very pleasant and helpful, even offering calming scent spray and a blanket for over his carry cage. Wonderful Vet who explained what she was thinking, what she did and what the plan was (and consideration of costs) and why, couldn't be happier with the great care!

Negative experience: They appear to put profit before animal welfare. I had to use this place for an emergency nail removal, and after telling them I only had $400 (they charged $150 just to walk in the door AND $38 for ridiculous chatvet you HAD to call before they'd even see us) the vet then actually said to me.. "well, we could try to rip the nail off without sedation, but that won't go well". This is coming from an actual vet. So they did the procedure on the "cheap", which included handing me my unrecovered dog (it would cost more to have Sam recover on site properly because that would take more of their time). I'm disgusted at this practice. Never again.

Negative experience: I am very disappointed with the after hours service we had when my darling wee kitty had to be put to sleep, they had no compassion whatsoever when I asked for an ink print of his paws and if my caster could come in the next day to cast his paws like our normal Dunedin vet normally allows with no issues, They said I had to contact the crematorium and organise it though them, so I did but the crematorium had no record of my wee man, and couldn’t find his body, but we since found that he was a put under his original name and not both names I had given the vet. I was also very disappointed that he had been sitting at the vet for 3 days so there was every opportunity for us to get him casted there but they flat refused, shame on you gardens vet never again will I use your services, you have caused unnecessary stress and devastation to our family
