Negative experience: Reply to Bula Rahul … From a legal and professional standpoint, this situation raises serious concerns regarding informed consent, duty of care, peri-operative communication, post-anaesthetic monitoring, and appropriate discharge planning. Once a fasting instruction and expected surgical timeframe were provided, there was a reasonable expectation that any significant delay or change in clinical management would be communicated to the owners promptly so they could make an informed decision about proceeding. Keeping an indoor cat nil by mouth for an extended duration, delaying the procedure by several hours without updating the family, and discharging the patient shortly after general anaesthesia without what appeared to be adequate recovery observation or feeding assessment may understandably lead owners to question whether appropriate veterinary standards and patient welfare protocols were followed. The emotional impact on owners should also not be minimised. Companion animals are family members, and communication delivered without empathy during a vulnerable peri-operative period can significantly damage trust. While staff safety and respectful communication are important, client concerns surrounding anaesthetic recovery, mobility impairment, hydration, pain management, and emergency contingency planning should still be acknowledged professionally and compassionately. At minimum, this situation warrants a formal review of communication practices, peri-operative protocols, discharge criteria, and client escalation procedures to ensure future patients and families receive transparent, safe, and compassionate care.

Negative experience: So we were told to put our cat nil by mouth at 8pm prior to his surgery as he was to have a surgery the next day, so off we took him in the morning at 8.30am as we were asked to, he got his pre- admission paper work done by a lovely nurse, then he was taken in we were told that the surgery will happen around mid day and our cat will be kept for post surgical obs and once he will wake up and if he is doing fine, he will be fed and by the end of the day he will be sent home, around 3pm I called to check thr progress of our cats surgery, the receptionist said they just started the surgery at 3pm, I had lost the plot by then because this is not what we were expecting, surgery at 3pm, and our cat was sent home 4.40pm, NO POST SURICAL OBS, NO FEEDING NOTHING, they DIDNT EVEN CALL US, then the receptionist puts me on hold and connects me to the manager who I think is a vet nurse, she tried to contradict everything I said, she even said that an animal is different to a human, that's when I really lost the plot, you giving Hartmanns to a cat and telling me an animal is different to humans AND THAT TOO TO A CRITICAL CARE REGISTERED NURSE, and when you used the same GA (off course intubation as well) used on a kid on our cat to do his surgery, she said I was inappropriate and threatening, all I said was when I arrive if my cat is not how we left him I will throw a tantrum and you are most welcome to call the cops on me, i dont know why she didnt call them if she felt that threatened, coz he is literally our baby, he is a full time indoor cat and is not used to foreign environments, and if you had other agendas with timing you should have called us and we could have rescheduled the surgery, but because they would have lost the sale they traumatized our cat from 8.30am till 3pm and then put him on the table to do the surgery. I also asked what happens if something goes wrong at home, she said to call them and the phone will be directed to emergency vet, and who will pay for that, OFF COURSE US. We picked the cat and took him home, when he came out of the cage he couldnt walk kept falling my partner saw his conditionand started crying, a week later the same manager lady calls me to ask for a post op routine check up, so i took the cat in, she didn't even take him out of the cage just fiddled around with his mouth, I probably could have checked that better then her. Then she quietly tells me that my communication was inappropriate with staff, i kept telling that we dont have children and our cat is our little boy, and after explaining my reasoning I was told TO LOOK FOR ANOTHER VET, I told her yes off course, not ever coming back to you guys. AND YES WE DID PAY YOU MONEY, AND MAYBE YOU NEED TO KNOW THAT A CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT REGARDLESS! LACK OF COMPASSION AND BLAME THE CONSUMER!

Positive experience: As expensive as all the vets in NZ. Took my cat there and it seems like they have done the job.

Negative experience: I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Anexa Vet Ngaruawahia. I brought my very sick puppy in for urgent medical attention, and it was clear he required immediate care. During an already distressing situation, I felt that financial requirements were prioritised before prompt treatment was provided. As a worried owner watching my puppy suffer, this was incredibly upsetting. Sadly, his condition worsened and he later passed away. The way this situation was handled has left me deeply hurt and questioning whether greater urgency and compassion could have been shown at such a critical time.

Negative experience: Horrible experience!! All they cared about was money and not wanting to treat the dog first. If it was a human they would have treated the human before wanting the payment!!

Negative experience: Horrible service! We brought our puppy in with Parvo, and during an emergency it felt like the focus was more on cost than urgent care. They didn’t come out to treat him until they finalise the prices. Our puppy sadly passed away, and the lack of compassion in such a traumatic moment was incredibly disappointing.

Positive experience: Awesome staff....Major is a real struggle to get seen even after been given the chill protocol but Barbara always trys to make his visit ok and ensure everyone ok. Only complaint is not clear instructions on chill protocol medication hence me returning 3 pills.

Negative experience: Gave us 2 days with a new medication for our 2 ten year old pet sheep that had pink eye. Then decided to come out and shoot them. Unforgivable.

Ata has been really unwell and both the frontline staff ( office) and vets are amazing… super kind, professional and informative. Fantastic experience: My first visit @ Anexa Ngaruawahia Friendly staff & very helpful. We are wanting to put weight on our Large breed dog and will try the Royal Canin 4800 - So pleased we could purchase this locally. It's not easy to find. Will definitely be back!

Positive experience: Anexa vets Ngaruawahia they did a great job with prescribing antibiotics for our cats ear infection in which I administered her myself orally but it could have been prevented… From our first original visit when we took her (our cat) there thinking she had been hit by a car as she was bleeding out of both of her ears and hanging her head down, after the vets did their first initial inspection it turned out she must have been in a cat fight or some how got the inside of her ears scratched, if they knew their stuff about cats and ears being highly susceptible to infections they would have prescribed some antibiotics as a preventive measure (in which I found by doing a two minute Google search) so we ended up having to go back two days later requiring more treatment and more fees, in just that short time her ears were festering and smelling like rotten flesh which we could smell from being in the same room as her! I guess it's one way for a business to make money knowing you'll have to come back but it's dangerous for the animals health, it's like the veterinarian doesn't know what they're doing at least when it comes to cats. They were very slow at letting us know if our cat was OK and we didn't even know she wasn't hit by a car or not for a very long time. This business never seems to have any large bags of cat food in stock so it's such a hassle when you drive all the way there and then have to drive 35 minutes across to Anexa vets Morrinsville because Anexa Huntly vets didn't have any either and Anexa vets Gordonton doesn't even deal with cats! In the end we were grateful that our beloved cat was OK
