Negative experience: Apalled with the vet forgetting to take out an iv of our dog having to sedate him twice to take it out and blamed us for them forgetting. Disgusting behaviour instead of just owning up and making comments blaming us because we weren’t there when we are in labour giving birth right now.

Negative experience: -5 stars. During the start of this year we wanted to consult with someone over our pups eyes, as she was having difficulty seeing and would bump into things. We came here and were told we either need to see a specialist in Auckland or have her put down as it was quite serious. She told us she would refer us to a specialist and that it would take (at most) a week for us to hear back. Not only did she fail to get in contact within the allotted time but 12 days after our visit we had two SPCA officers knocking on our door. She had reported us stating that we are hindering our dogs quality of life by not following through with some kind of treatment. Not only was this false considering she failed to get in touch with us regarding ANY kind of treatment plan, but because we felt that it was taking too long to hear back we ended up taking our dog to a different vet. 6 days after our visit mind you. Dr Scott Raleigh at Barkes Corner was able to see us the very same day we called, came up with solutions, quotes and a treatment plan that same visit, and communicated + kept us involved during the whole process. A long story short, our girl eventually had a successful surgery with an amazing dr who continues to be a cherished part of our dogs life. Thank you Barkes Corner. Back to the SPCA, they ended up apologising the same day of their visit after confirming with Barkes Corner that our dog has been seen and is booked in for eye surgery. I understand the need for SPCA to get involved in some cases, absolutely. But for a professional to dishonour an agreement, even if it was just a verbal one, and then to report a family to SPCA for that same lack of communication and professionalism on their own part is absolutely disgusting. We were frenzied waiting for this lady to contact us. And we’re dang lucky we ended up going somewhere else in time because not once did she ever contact us. Not her, not their reception, nobody. For a veterinarian to see how much our dog was suffering, to forget her care and keep us waiting for something that just never came, an update, an appointment - something. And then to report this to SPCA as if we were the ones neglecting our dog is truly disgusting. Instead of writing a report to them she could have been writing to the specialist like she told us she was going to. It never should have taken 7 days in the first place. Our pups situation was so dire that you’d think she’d make contact asap, but she did nothing. She reported us when she could have been coming up with a treatment plan. It’s absolutely unhinged disgusting.

They’ve all been very gentle and empathetic towards the floof and they all made me feel as though they genuinely did care about her. It’s never nice when your babies need a vet but this team makes the experience a good one.

Fantastic experience: We had a scare one morning and got over to the vets as soon as possible. Even though we had our beloved pet pass away before we got there, the staff were so helpful and empathetic, they really made the loss bearable. Wonderful people and great service.

Negative experience: Have been with this vet since 1982. Today found the service extremely poor and unfriendly. Not greeted and ignored upon arrival and left feeling I need to find a different Vet for our two fur babies. Required claws clipped again less than three months since last done. Most disappointing.

Fantastic experience: A big thank you to Paul( vet) and staff for all the care and follow up given when my dog (an Italian greyhound) had dental work done....recovered well and would certainly like to recommend papamoa vets highly

Negative experience: My family has used Papamoa vets for the last 17 years for our cats, but customer service and communication has severely declined in the past year. Taking one cat in for dental work, we received no communications about the need for the cat to fast and had to take her home and rebook for another day. Our other cat went in today for bloods, and unknown to us was given sedation to carry out the procedure. This was not communicated to us, nor what we should do once we took her home. It was only when we rang up to ask the vet why our cat was so spacey and wobbly, were we told the full story. In addition, her claws were cut without our permission, which our geriatric cat uses to get around and to climb up to her drinking fountain. We are not happy with this kind of service and disappointed to see Papamoa vets go downhill.

They have Afterpay now too which is a great option for the unexpected visits. I’ve been coming here for 4 years now.

Negative experience: I didn't want to give any stars!! When ringing the clinic, the vet nurses say one thing to you, make excuses and actually don't know their own clinics protocols, especially when requesting the euthanasia of a beloved pet. I would not rely on this clinic and found the experience with them upsetting and extremely unprofessional. I absolutely do not recommend using them.

Fantastic experience: Are you looking for a vet with a heart. Don't look much further. The Papamoa Vets are highly qualified professionals, which put your animal first. We are highly recommending those people to you, even if it is the last visit for your friend. Paul is all the way on your side and you don't feel alone with your decision.

Fantastic experience: Most helpful staff ever as we relocated from US to NZ. Stuck in human quarantine with our animal in pet quarantine without any local vet contacts. We blind called them hoping for help and got an amazing response. We needed some assistance with meds that got left in the US and this office helped us get sorted. It was such a wonderful experience we've already scheduled our first vet visit in NZ with them and hope they become our vet for the next few years. Laura in the front office made it all happen for us..so thank you!!
